Tracy Julian, Esq.

Founding Partner

Tracy Julian, Esq., is a founding partner of Julian Smuro Law, LLC. She has practiced in the fields of family law; commercial litigation; and trust and estate litigation for nearly twenty-five years. She brings substantive experience and compassion to all varieties of family law matters including marital and civil union dissolution (pendente lite and post-judgment); child custody; parenting time; alimony; child support; and equitable distribution of assets and liabilities. She drafts and negotiates prenuptial agreements and attends to domestic violence matters. She represents a diverse range of individuals across the state, including individuals of varied economic means and sexual orientation. Tracy is a caring and trusted confidant of her clients. She approaches each of their matters with civility and professionalism, whether the parties settle amicably or require fierce advocacy. She is keenly dedicated to her clients and their needs, and she works tirelessly to protect them.

Experience

Tracy has applied her extensive experience as a commercial litigator to divorce cases involving business owners and high-net-worth individuals. She has worked closely with economic experts to address business values and cash flow. In addition to her commercial litigation and business experience, Tracy also has significant experience in handling the delicate and emotional aspects of child custody and parenting time disputes. She has amicably negotiated child custody and parenting time agreements and has worked with mental health professionals to perform child best interest evaluations when necessary. When parties have been unable to reach an amicable resolution to their child custody issues, Tracy has successfully litigated custody and parenting time cases at trial to conclusion. She understands the sensitive nature of these matters and is an intense advocate for the best interests of the children in every instance.

Past Success

Tracy has experience in all phases of the divorce process; she assists clients in navigating the legal system via settlement negotiations, mediation, arbitration or litigation, when necessary. She regularly appears in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Family Part, and Appellate Division and has appeared before the New Jersey Supreme Court. She was trial counsel in a divorce and custody litigation spanning 120 days of trial in 2022 in which she secured sole custody of the children for her client; a generous distribution of marital assets (including substantial business and real estate interests); and a counsel fee award approaching two million dollars. Tracy has also served as trial counsel in a divorce matter with a marital estate valued in excess of $200 million. She is as equally dedicated to amicable, straightforward matters as she is to complex trial work at every financial level.

Education

Tracy graduated from James Madison University, B.A. (mass communications), cum laude, in 1995 and from Seton Hall University School of Law (Thomas Reardon Academic Achievement Award), J.D., in 1998. She was admitted to the practice of law in the State of New Jersey in December 1998. She served as a law clerk to the Honorable Eugene A. Iadanza, J.S.C., in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Family Part, Monmouth County, from 1998 to 1999.

"My experience enables me to guide my clients through difficult legal, financial and emotional situations with warmth, respect, civility–and fierce advocacy, when necessary, to protect the client’s best interests and the interests of their family. The peace that a client experiences when we work hard together to achieve an effective resolution of their issue is well-worth the long days and often sleepless nights.”
